Abstract

This exhibition is an extension of the By Your Side -exhibition (2018) in which I revealed thirty pages of my personal visual diary. I had been creating the diary by taking photos during the three months while our daughter dying in cancer was at home for her terminal care. I photographed the ever-changing views to the river Kemijoki, which flows close to us. The river both comforted me and reflected the various feelings I encountered when trying to adjust myself to the inevitable loss.
The thirty pages that were displayed in chronological order gave only a slight impression of what was going on. There were many pages left in my visual diary – numerous moods and emotions – that had remained hidden. So, I looked at the rest of my visual diary, photos not yet shown in public but also taken within 6th October 2017 – 6th January 2018. I chose these to show you, but blended their order thus giving space for re-creation and reinterpretation.
I wish you could find here a scene that functions as a mirror to something you have felt, or that touches you. Moreover, maybe later, you can find and go to a healing place in nature that you can connect with, as I do with the river.
